The founder of the World's Most Famous Bike Trail passed away on the morning of December 24, 2020. Richard R. Wilson, who created the Slickrock Bike Trail in Moab, Utah in 1969, enjoyed a life full of love, adventure, and exploration. His love of adventure enabled him to spend many hours out on the slick rock around Moab and inspired him to create the trail, not only for other people's safety but also to preserve the beauty and environment of the area. This amazing story was documented with the film 50 Years of Slickrock and can be viewed below.
After moving away from Moab, Richard had a busy life as a news reporter and writer in Tennessee, New Mexico, and California. He met his true love, Alberta Wilson, in 1987 and spent many happy years together in Friant, CA. He died from complications from Lewy Body Dementia, not COVID19.
